The message on the campaign trail has been clear: North Dakotans want to remain in charge of North Dakota’s elections. Preserving and protecting the integrity of our elections is paramount in gaining the public’s trust in our election process. But as you know, there are efforts outside of North Dakota to nationalize that process. In President Biden’s State of the Union address in March, he asked Congress to continue pursuing efforts to ban voter ID laws, allow non-US citizens to vote, and allow ballots to be counted weeks after election day.
I have been proud to support legislation that ensures only U.S. citizens participate in our elections, I have supported our voter ID laws, and I supported legislation that bans private dollars to fund our public elections. As Secretary of State, I will ensure that our North Dakota election laws remain on the books, not California’s or New York’s laws.
