Democrats, Hollywood Demand Gun Control in Wake of Texas School Shooting
CBS: Senate Democratic leaders on Wednesday implored Republican senators to drop their firm opposition to gun control legislation while signaling that the upper chamber won’t immediately move to vote on legislation in the wake of the deadly shooting at a Texas elementary school that left 19 children and two adults dead… On the Senate floor Wednesday, Schumer suggested nothing can be accomplished without Republican support, given that 60 votes are required to overcome a filibuster in the evenly divided Senate. Schumer said he understands the desire for senators to be on the record, but voters know where Republicans stand ( CBS). Breitbart: Hollywood celebrities wasted little time capitalizing on the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday, urging voters and lawmakers to support more gun control while also blaming the shooting on Republicans and other supporters of Second Amendment rights ( Breitbart).

Biden to Visit Uvalde, Texas, Says “The Second Amendment is not absolute”
National Review: President Biden announced at a press briefing Wednesday that he and First Lady Jill Biden will be traveling to Uvalde, Texas, the site of the recent horrific elementary school shooting, to meet with the families of the victims, which included 19 children and two teachers. He said they will be visiting in the “coming days.” Biden then transitioned to talking about what must be done to prevent such tragedies in the future, suggesting that gun control should be seriously considered. “The Second Amendment is not absolute,” he said. “When it was passed you couldn’t own a cannon, you couldn’t own certain weapons.” Vice President Kamala Harris took to the podium and echoed the president’s comments. “All of of hearts are with the people of Uvalde, Texas,” she said. “Enough is enough. Enough is enough.” “We must pass reasonable gun safety laws,” she added ( National Review). CNN: With 21 dead and 17 others injured, the attack at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde was the deadliest school shooting in almost a decade, shaking a nation still reeling from a mass shooting in Buffalo, New York, just 10 days ago ( CNN).

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm: High Gas Prices Are an “Exclamation Point” for the Urgency to Transition to Clean Energy
Daily Wire: Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said that soaring gas prices are a major reason why the U.S. economy must transition away from fossil fuels and toward green energy. Speaking to reporters during a press conference in Golden, Colorado, announcing a $38 million investment by the Department of Energy to “decarbonize” its National Laboratories, Granholm said that continuing concern about rising prices at the pump was an “exclamation point” on the need to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels ( Daily Wire). The Hill: Acknowledging that “global events are impacting how high the gas prices are,” she pointed out that this will not likely be a one-time scenario without long-term solutions. “When China comes back, or opens up after COVID, people will be driving, that will be a pull on demand — you’ll see an upward pressure on prices,” she said. “When the EU [European Union] actually does ban Russian oil and gas, which they are contemplating doing, that too will create an upward pressure on prices because of the Russian oil that is pulled off the market” ( Hill). CNN: President Biden is “obsessed with the fact that gas prices are so high and people are hurting,” Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said following a rare tour of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve ( Twitter).

Prosecution Rests its Case in Sussman Trial, Reveals Evidence That Sussman Billed Clinton Campaign for Meeting with FBI
New York Post: Attorney Michael Sussman’s expense reports were admitted into evidence in court Tuesday before the prosecution rested its case against the lawyer, who’s on trial for lying to the FBI during the meeting… The new evidence shows he was on the clock for Clinton that day — though the defense countered that the embattled attorney expensed taxis to and from the meeting to the law firm and not to Clinton or any other client. The new exhibits show Sussmann charged the Clinton camp 3.3 hours “for work and communications regarding confidential project” on Sept. 19, 2016, the day he met with FBI counsel James Baker. Sussmann originally submitted a report for 4.5 hours, but later said he spent only 3.3 hours on the project in an email on Nov. 6, two days before the presidential election between Trump and Clinton ( New York Post). HotAir: So you have Sussmann stating the meeting with the FBI was done on behalf of his client. You have billing records which appear to show he billed flash drives and possibly the meeting itself to the Clinton campaign. And you have texts and contemporaneous notes saying he claimed to be operating on his own ( HotAir).

Both organizations rely on adult volunteers or staff to facilitate their chat rooms, and they don’t verify the age of those joining the chats beyond asking applicants for a birth date ( Daily Wire). Libs of TikTok: The online chat room has a “quick escape” feature in case a kid wants to hide it from their parents ( Twitter).

Millions of COVID Relief Aid Went to Left-Wing Pet Projects
Fox News: Dozens of cultural and educational institutions spent millions in taxpayers dollars from President Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package to fund programs pushing social and climate justice… For instance, $499,023 went to the University of Montana for multiple programs on racial justice, including a public lecture series on “racial justice, death and Indigenous knowledge.” Another $50,000 in ARP funds went to a nonprofit organization in the Northern Mariana Islands called 500 Sails for “reopening programs that teach Indigenous canoe-building and explore pre-colonial sea life” ( Fox News). Townhall: Meanwhile, as inflation continues to hit America hard, Biden’s trillion dollar Covid relief package is facing tough criticism for its downfall effect it has had on the U.S.’s economy. Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) said Americans should be outraged at the “far-left’s spending,” adding that the money has been a “waste and abuse of Covid funds” ( Townhall).

FDA Commissioner Takes Heat During Oversight Committee Hearing on Abbott Lab Baby Formula Debacle
Wall Street Journal: U.S. Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Robert Califf signaled potential reforms to his agency’s food safety division, even as he took aim at “shocking” safety lapses at Abbott Laboratories’ Michigan baby formula plant. In a five-hour hearing before congressional lawmakers Wednesday, Mr. Califf blamed outdated technology and coordination breakdowns for delays in responding to warnings about infant formula safety. Mr. Califf said his agency was too slow to respond to a whistleblower report about safety failures at the Abbott manufacturing plant in Sturgis, Mich., which exacerbated infant formula shortages when it was shut down. The report, released last month by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D., Conn.), alleged a long list of safety lapses at the Sturgis facility, including the release of untested formula. An FDA inspection earlier this year also found problems at the plant, including the presence of dangerous bacteria and standing water on the floor ( Wall Street Journal). RNC Research: Democrat Rep. Rosa DeLauro says the Biden administration “is culpable on dragging their feet” on the baby formula shortage. “They didn’t do ANYTHING” for months ( Twitter).

Biden Signs Police Reform Legislation, Reaction Mixed
ABC: On the second anniversary of George Floyd’s death at the hands of Minneapolis police, President Joe Biden on Wednesday signed an executive order on policing reforms for federal law enforcement. The order signed Wednesday will apply to roughly 100,000 federal officers total, administration officials said. The executive order signed by Biden will create a new national database that contains records of federal officer misconduct, including convictions, terminations, de-certifications, civil judgments, resignations and retirements while under investigation for serious misconduct. It also requires all federal law enforcement agencies to revise use-of-force policies, banning chokeholds and restricting the use of no-knock warrants — two tactics that were widely criticized following the deaths of Floyd and Taylor ( ABC). Fox News: Large law enforcement organizations throughout the U.S. are weighing in on President Biden’s new executive order on police reform, with some saying it’s a step in the right direction and others expressing concerns that it’s just “political theater” that will demoralize and endanger police officers. The executive order comes as crime rates are skyrocketing across the nation and a record number of police officers have been shot in the line of duty. Officers say morale is low among their departments and are having trouble hiring. It also comes several months after legislation to reform policing stalled in the Senate due to disagreements between Republican and Democratic lawmakers ( Fox News).
