Please tell the Senate to stay in Washington, D.C., and pass gun reform laws before taking a recess.

Dear MoveOn member,

Just hours ago, we sent a petition to cancel the NRA convention. Normally, we wouldn’t send more than one petition in a day, but Republican senators are trying to run away from their duty to pass common sense gun laws in order to attend the NRA convention. Which is why we’re asking you to also sign this petition calling on the Senate to cancel their Memorial Day vacation.

Nineteen students and two adults were shot to death in Texas. Yet the Senate is heading off for a 10-day break rather than voting to pass commonsense, bipartisan, necessary gun violence legislation.

Congress can act quickly—both houses passed new laws regarding security for Supreme Court justices after the leaked draft showing that right-wing justices are prepared to overturn Roe v. Wade.1 Our senators and representatives took action on that measure immediately.

But the Senate isn't even planning a vote before recess following the deadliest school shooting in a decade, which came on the heels of mass killings in Buffalo, New York, and Laguna Hills, California, within the past 10 days. Democrats in the House have already passed critical gun violence prevention legislation earlier this session. Now, we need Senate action to send these bills to the president.

Tell the Senate to cancel its vacation and pass gun reforms now!

The Senate needs to take urgent action on gun violence. We need them in D.C., not on recess. Cancel vacation, hold votes, and deliver for the American people.

And as we mourn the victims in Uvalde, Texas, we need more than thoughts and prayers—we need votes and laws. The Senate should stay in session and hold these votes.

Congress can—and must—act on gun violence and break the grip of the NRA and right-wing media.

The House has passed legislation already. Tell the Senate to cancel recess, stay in D.C., hold votes, and deliver!

Thanks for all you do.

Want to support our work? Right-wing groups are spending tens of millions of dollars on TV ads to smear critical progressive legislation. Meanwhile, donations to progressive groups like MoveOn are plummeting now that a Democrat is in the White House, meaning we don’t have the resources to fight back. That's a huge problem, and that's why we urgently need your support.

Will you chip in to fight right-wing lies and pass urgent legislation to confront the multiple crises our country faces?
