John,
Right now, District Attorney Jackie Lacey relies on cops with a history of misconduct, dishonesty, and bias as witnesses in court.
The solution is simple: create a “do not call list” of bad cops. It’s wrong to build cases based on information provided by untrustworthy cops. That’s why I just released an open letter to Lacey – but to force her to take action, we need to show huge grassroots support.
Los Angeles is suffering because Lacey has failed to meet her ethical obligation as a guardian of the community. From going against her own police chief in refusing to prosecute a killer cop to going against the will of California’s voters in fighting reform, she has fallen far behind her peers in safeguarding the public safety and trust. She even remained silent when Sheriff Villanueva re-hired officers formerly fired for misconduct.
The district attorney is one of the only checks against police power. Lacey urgently needs to do her job. She cannot possibly hope to uphold justice for the people of Los Angeles while she relies on testimonies from cops that have a history of bias, misconduct, and dishonesty.
Thank you for signing on,
Patrisse Cullors
P.S. To take further action, please visit this site to tweet directly at Lacey or to call her office. You can also read my full open letter here.
