John, I’m devastated by the events in Uvalde, Texas yesterday. Our children and our nation deserve better.
Our country continues to face heartbreaking moments that underscore how the Republican Party is holding our nation hostage. I’m absolutely devastated we live in a nation that values “freedom” over innocent Americans — including children — being gunned down and murdered.
We can’t stand for this any longer, and we can’t stand for politicians who are beholden to corporations or lobbying organizations like the NRA. We must take action to pass universal background checks and other gun safety laws to keep our children and communities safe. I’ve developed a public safety coalition right here in the district that is currently convening every part of government to end violence and work to increase the necessary funding so every community has the same opportunities to thrive — but we need more people in Congress who will do the hard work and tackle gun violence head-on. No more empty promises.
As the former spokesperson for Moms Demand Action Illinois, I know we can dramatically reduce gun violence and the toll that it takes on families across this country. But it has to happen NOW.
I will always be only beholden to the people of IL-06. And that will never change. Now let’s take action instead of merely sending thoughts and prayers.
Earlier this year, we passed H.R. 8 the Bipartisan Background Check Act and H.R. 1446 the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2021 in the House. Obstructionist Republicans in the Senate are keeping us from passing these life-saving measures into law.
Let Republican senators know it’s time to act by joining Moms Demand Action in demanding the Senate stand up to the gun lobby so our children don’t have to stand up to gunmen. Text ACT to 644-33.
