Hi John,

This week, lawmakers are in Tallahassee for a special session focused on the urgent property insurance crisis facing our state.

All across Florida, homeowners are dealing with skyrocketing insurance renewal rates and many people are even losing their insurance altogether. In fact, news emerged last week that by the end of June, almost 70,000 more policies will be canceled.

This problem, though complex, can be solved through sensible state policy. Yet, instead of providing immediate relief to consumers in the form of rebates and rate decreases, lawmakers in Tallahassee are planning to funnel taxpayer dollars to property insurance providers – a measure that could take up to 18 months to actually help consumers.

When I’m in Tallahassee, I’ll fight for solutions that provide real relief to the people of our community and all Floridians. I’ll speak up when the people I represent are struggling and the solutions our legislators come up with don’t make it better.

This isn’t an ideal time to ask for you to chip in, I know times are hard! Please know that I am doing everything I can to save every contribution we receive to help elevate our message, but if you can chip in anything at all, please do!

This problem isn’t unique to homeowners. Florida’s condo owners are also facing skyrocketing insurance rates – particularly because of the Surfside accident.

During the regular session, lawmakers had the opportunity to strengthen safety rules for condos to reassure insurance companies, but they failed to act. A last-minute proposal to strengthen condo safety rules has been put on the table during this special session, but again, it may not be enough to help consumers who are struggling.

It’s the job of lawmakers to listen to the issues of those they represent and to act to address them as quickly as possible. I’ve been knocking on doors and listening to people’s concerns, and I’m committed to speaking up to address them when I’m your State Senator.

We need your support to win this race. If you’re able, click here to chip in what you can today so I can go to Tallahassee and fight for you.

Thank you,

Janelle
