Yesterday’s mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas was the 30th school shooting in 2022 alone. It was also the third deadliest in modern American history.

At this point, the American people have grown accustomed to the feeling of heartbreak and horror. As I reflect on the unimaginable grief the victims’ families are feeling, I’m also thinking of the millions of parents who dropped their kids off at school this morning with a renewed sense of hesitation and worry.

We cannot accept a reality that demands that American parents teach their kids that our classrooms could become the next site of a massacre at a moment’s notice. We need action.

Almost all gun owners in the country support violent history checks, but my opponent Ken Calvert does not. He received more NRA campaign contributions than any other California Congressmember between 1998 and 2016.

I was awarded the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction because they know that I'll fight for common sense solutions, like requiring basic violent history checks, safe storage, and red flag laws. And I'll never take a cent from the NRA.

When I am in Congress, I will accept nothing less than long-lasting gun safety reforms that American families demand and deserve.
