John,
I’m angry today, and I’m sure many of you are as well.
Yesterday, an 18 year old gunman stormed Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas and viciously slaughtered 21 people, 19 of them children and 2 teachers. And while we mourn the lives lost and feel intense grief for those families who didn’t know that yesterday would be the last day they saw their children’s smiling faces alive, I cannot help but feel angry.
I’m angry because school shootings are an American phenomenon that we consistently do not act upon. I’m angry because young children were murdered at school, AGAIN, and we still do not act. I’m angry because the Republican party refuses to implement any common sense gun reform, and it is because of the gun lobby. And I’m angry because this didn’t need to happen, but it did.
We need gun reform — full stop. For the lives lost yesterday, and all of the lives lost from the 27 mass shootings to take place in America in 2022. I will not back down from the fight for gun reform, and I hope you'll join me in using your voices to call on Congress to act.
Our hearts are with the families of the victims. Inaction is simply not an option.
Respectfully,
Carolyn Maloney
