I am heartbroken by the news that at least 19 children and 2 teachers were
shot and murdered at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. This tragic
mass shooting follows the deadly white supremacist mass shooting in
Buffalo just 10 days ago and Sandy Hook nearly a decade earlier.
It is impossible to process these horrific murders and the scale of trauma
for the surviving families. As a country, too, we are forced to grapple
with the pain, anger, and grief as these horrible tragedies keep
happening.
[ [link removed] ]Right now, I ask that you join me and review The Washington Post’s
guide to help the families in Uvalde right now. If you’re in a position to
donate or help out in another way, please consider doing so.
I am furious, and I am ashamed that this is what our country has been
reduced to. I am enraged by the hollowness of any condolences from those
who offer prayers but do nothing to change the conditions that have
allowed this and countless other shootings to be possible.
We cannot separate these shootings from the constant cries for more guns
from Republicans in the U.S. Senate and House, Governor’s mansions, and
state legislatures.
It does not have to be this way. Our children are dying because the U.S.
Senate refuses to act, and because Republicans continue to push for more
guns instead of taking guns off the streets. This isn’t inevitable. We
have an obligation as public servants to interrupt this relentless march
of violence. I will continue the fight to do so. Enough has to be enough.
Take care of yourself, and [ [link removed] ]take a look at the guide for helping
families in Uvalde if you have a chance.
In solidarity,
Pramila
