Leora Levy Offers a Statement in Response to Uvalde School Shooting
GREENWICH, CT - Yesterday, a mentally ill individual in Uvalde, Texas opened fire on innocent school children and administrators. Calling for stronger security protections in schools and increased investment in mental health services, Republican candidate for Senate Leora Levy issued the following statement in response to this senseless loss of life.
Statement from Leora Levy:
"My heart is breaking and I send my deepest condolences to all of the families who hugged their beloved children goodbye for the last time yesterday. Everyone, from school administrators, teachers and staff, first responders, community members, students and their families, has been significantly affected by this horrible evil act. As a mother, I can only imagine the agony of the parents who have lost their children to such senseless violence. I understand that for many in Connecticut this also brings back memories of Sandy Hook, and I am praying for our families and communities during this time of immeasurable grief.
"As a nation, we must stand together against evil and hatred. Our national priority should be the protection of our children in their schools, the protection of people in their places of worship and as they go about their daily lives. We must address the mental health epidemic in our country. When elected to the U.S. Senate, I will work diligently for solutions like increased mental health services funding and prioritize investing government dollars toward safer schools. Today we are all grieving from this loss of precious lives, but in moments of tragedy, we must focus on what unites us, not that which divides us to score political points."
