Big news, John.
We’re launching an exciting new campaign in the U.S. to help stop the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (or EACOP).
To help kick off this campaign, we want to invite you to join our next webinar with 350 Africa campaigners and partners to get up to speed on our plans.
Will you RSVP to join the #StopEACOP LIVE webinar on Wednesday, June 1 at 10:00 am ET/7:00 am PT?
Total Energies has been trying to secure funding for the East African Crude Oil Pipeline for years.
The good news is that many banks and insurers in the U.S. and Europe have now ruled out financing EACOP directly due to pressure from our movement.
But the bad news is that one of the most powerful brokerages in the United States – Marsh McLennan – is trying to help Total get the project over the finish line.
That’s why we’re leveraging our climate movement in the U.S. to up the pressure and stand alongside our partners and allies in Africa and Europe.
This proposed crude oil pipeline would run from Kabaale, Uganda to the northeastern coast of Tanzania – displacing about 118,000 people, endangering the region’s unique ecosystems, and threatening wetlands, wildlife, and fresh water sources that support millions of people.
Meanwhile, the latest UN climate report is clear that we cannot build any new oil and gas projects if we hope to keep global heating to 1.5 degrees.
During the webinar, you’ll hear from speakers from around the globe about how you can take action to stop the financing behind EACOP and learn more about how the project would impact local communities and the climate.
Speakers include:
If we can get Marsh McLennan to drop EACOP, we will hamper Total’s efforts to get this vital element of the project sorted.
We will also send a clear signal to other insurers, banks, brokers, and any other corporation that this project is too toxic to touch and any involvement will be met with resistance from across the globe.
Please sign up now to join us on Wednesday, June 1 to be at the ground level of this campaign to #StopEACOP and build a better, fossil free future for all.
Hope to see you there,
Ellie May
P.S. Can you let Marsh McLennan know any support of this deadly pipeline is as toxic to their business as it is to our planet? Sign the petition here.
