Don’t miss this discussion on how we can create a fairer tax system for all.
Dear John, Our tax system can be a game-changing tool—impacting nearly every household—to build a just and fair economy. However, even though the richest individuals and businesses are responsible for a larger percentage of the taxes that go uncollected each year, it’s low-income tax filers who are disproportionately audited – with many of the counties with the highest audit rates being predominantly Black, Indigenous, and Latinx. These communities working to make ends meet need a more equitable tax code now. Join us on Wednesday, June 15 as we host the Treasury Department’s Office of Tax Policy and discuss how strengthening the IRS is a key step in creating a more equitable tax
code.
Strengthening the IRS to Create a More Equitable Tax Code
Wednesday, June 15, 3:00-4:15 pm ET
Prosperity Now, in partnership with the National Women’s Law Center, SaverLife, and United Way, will be hosting this conversation on how we create a fairer tax system for all people. We’ll cover how slashed IRS funding has made it difficult for the agency to support the lowest-income families, especially families of color, and how fewer auditors have caused audit rates for the wealthiest people and businesses to drop sharply since 2010. Join us as we brainstorm solutions in remaking an economy that works for everyone, starting with the tax code.
Looking forward to seeing you there! Thanks! Joanna Ain
