John -
President Trump hit an important milestone as he returned to Florida for the Thanksgiving holiday: 100 visits to Mar-a-Lago.
That means Trump has visited Mar-a-Lago about 10% of the days he’s been in office, despite the fact that his use of the resort has prompted concerns about national security, profiteering, influence peddling, and transparency. Not only have Trump’s visits to Mar-a-Lago showcased some of the worst aspects of his presidency, but these visits to his scandal-plagued resort have come at a steep cost to taxpayers. Read CREW’s round-up of the lowlights, and share it today.
In February 2017, Trump notoriously dined with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at Mar-a-Lago, publicly discussing a North Korean missile test. In April 2017, White House staff ran up a $1,000 bar tab at Mar-a-Lago, on taxpayers’ dime. In December 2017, Trump celebrated his tax cuts by telling Mar-a-Lago guests, “you all just got a lot richer.”
All those are just a few incidents from Trump’s first year in office—since then, the overlaps between his business and his presidency have only become more concerning and more blatant.
When other Trump properties are added to the tally, the President’s total visits to his businesses climbs to a staggering 400 visits in 1,043 days as president. At this point, it is clear that Trump has prioritized funneling taxpayer money to his properties more than he has prioritized almost anything else.
If you find Trump’s blatant profiteering on the taxpayer dime as concerning as we do, sign our petition today: No more taxpayer spending at Trump properties!
Keeping tabs on Trump’s conflicts is crucial, even if the constant stream of scandals can be overwhelming. We refuse to let this become the new normal, and we hope you will join us in calling out Trump’s behavior for what it is: corruption, pure and simple.
