Hi Greens!
Another Election Day has come and
gone! Congratulations to our new elected Greens and thank you to all
of our Green candidates! Now we look toward the big 2020 Election and
our Presidential Nominating Convention in Detroit next July
9-12. The Detroit Green Party, Wayne County Green Party
and the Green Party of Michigan will host the Convention at Wayne
State University. Our Annual Meeting Committee is planning everything
that will happen at the convention and from what I'm hearing the venue
is great and the convention is going to be pretty awesome! All Greens
are invited to attend. Stay tuned for more information. Registration
will be starting soon, and remember, if you register early, you'll get
a discount on the registration fee.

The Green Party of the United States (GPUS)
congratulates all of its 2019 Fall General Election candidates on
their hard-fought campaigns, including civil rights attorney and
National Lawyers Guild member Kat Bruner James for
her election to Ferndale (Michigan) City Council in a partisan
election. “I look forward to serving on the first female-majority City
Council in Ferndale,” Kat announced in a Facebook post to supporters.
“I have many people to thank.”
Anna Trevorrow, Green Party representative on the
Portland, ME Board of Education, won re-election to a third term on a
tide of community support. Trevorrow received the endorsement of
Equity in Portland Schools, noting her record of lobbying for
“doubling Pre-K with union staff, creating the Breathe Program—the
new, greatly expanded emotional-behavior program, and further
investment in core instruction” to improve educational outcomes in
economically marginalized communities.
Other Green Party victories in November's General Election
include:
- CA — Wayne Doyle for Timber Cove County Water District
- CT — Eric Bergman for Town Council of Clinton
- CT — Ed Heflin for Constable of Greenwich
- CT — Leif Smith for Constable of Redding
- MI — Cliff Yankovich for Lowell City Council
- PA — Tara Yaney for Edgewood Borough Council
- VA — Ira Richards for Lord Fairfax Soil & Water Conservation
District (Warren County)
New York City’s approval of Ranked Choice Voting
(RCV) for primaries and special elections, with
over 73% voting in favor of the ballot proposal, also marks an
important milestone for one of the party’s signature issues. “We will
continue organizing for RCV in general elections in America’s largest
city,” said GPUS Co-Chair and Brooklyn
resident Gloria
Mattera. “Millions of voters directly experiencing the
expanded democracy RCV brings will build on the already overwhelming
support shown in the referendum. RCV for all NYC voters — every time
they vote — will become an irresistible demand.”
In another example of a referendum victory for voter empowerment in
New York, the citizens of Syracuse adopted independent
redistricting for their city council. CONTINUE

#GivingTuesday is next week, December
3rd! The relatively-recent tradition of Giving Tuesday
reminds us that some of the greatest gifts don't come from big box
stores or the warehouses of online shopping behemoths. On the Tuesday
after Thanksgiving, folks are asked to give special consideration to
the movements, issues and direct aid organizations striving to make a
better world for all.
On this Giving Tuesday, we hope
you will support the Green Party with a contribution and also share
our donation page at gp.org/donate with a story about what drew you to
this party and why you believe our mission is still
essential.
How did you first learn about the Green Party? Who
or what introduced you? What did you see, or hear, that let you know
this party was for you — that what we are building is important? How
has your conviction grown stronger over time?
Your story will
help others understand why you are giving to the
Green Party and share the spark that leads to
action!

Bloomington, Indiana. - A new
branch of the Green Party in Monroe County could present candidates
for local ballots as soon as the 2020 election. Potential new
members have already had two meetings at the Monroe County Public
Library to talk about the process of forming the party, which includes
electing officers, creating bylaws and deciding what issues are
currently most important to tackle. "I'm shocked we've got the kind of
response we've seen," Randy Paul, who is leading the Green Party
creation effort, said at the October meeting. CONTINUE

Salt Lake Tribune, By Taylor Stevens, November 1,

Salt Lake City –
An air quality and local agriculture activist who’s been fighting the development of the inland
port announced his decision this month to throw his hat into the
ring for Salt Lake County mayor in 2020. Michael Cundick, 33, is the first
candidate to formally declare in the upcoming race, in which he plans
to run on the Green Party ticket on a platform that promotes
environmentalism as the solution to a broad range of issues facing the
county.
“I’ve been fighting hard for local food, gardening [and]
community building activism for the last eight years, and thought I
was a good person to bring those ideals onto the political front,”
Cundick told The Salt Lake Tribune in an interview Thursday. “I think
it’s really important that every front line we’ve got we’re talking
about the principles of how to get in harmony with life and the
natural environment and rally communities around those." CONTINUE

ALBANY, NY — Green Party of New York
officials said the Public Campaign Finance Commission's decision to
raise ballot access thresholds to 2% of the vote or 130,000 votes
(whichever is greater) for presidential and gubernatorial elections
was an anti-democratic decision that would limit voter choice in New
York. Gloria
Mattera, party co-chair stated "The Commission was
supposedly charged with cleaning up the role of big money in New York
elections. Instead, they made a few cosmetic changes while focusing on
killing third parties. The legislature needs to stand up for
democracy, and come back to finish the job they should have done last
spring." CONTINUE
