In the last few months, I’ve been asked countless times about what we can do to prevent election subversion in 2022 and beyond. Unfortunately, there’s no easy fix — no law that Congress can pass that will stop Republicans from trying to subvert election results in their favor.
To some, this is discouraging — but we cannot afford to be discouraged. The fight for our democracy is urgent and requires each and every one of us to play a part.
In my latest piece, “Election Subversion Is the New Voter Suppression,” I outline how Republicans will use claims of fraud and suppressive laws to challenge legally-cast ballots, subtract votes from the totals and certify these incomplete results to ensure their candidates win. The war against election subversion won’t be waged in Congress — it will be fought in states and counties and courtrooms across the country.
