Hi John!
To mark Africa Day, we wanted to tell you about Kamate Muhindo, who for
years has been on the frontline fighting HIV, malaria, tuberculosis and
COVID-19.
Kamate wanted to become a nurse after he fell ill and almost died as a
young man. His older sister died of AIDS in 2005 because she didn’t have
access to medicines that would help her live with HIV/AIDS.
Kamate now works hard as head nurse at the Majengo Marie Health Centre in
Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Every day, he and his team
of 15 treat patients with life-threatening diseases such as HIV,
tuberculosis and malaria. They have also been critical to fighting other
disease outbreaks like COVID-19.

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria invests in
supporting countries to build stronger health systems to ensure that
people like Kamate can provide life-saving care for their communities. In
2021 alone, it helped train over 800 health workers in the DRC.
The more support that Kamate and his team can get, the more lives they can
save and change. Will you join our campaign to help people like Kamate and
stop millions more deaths from AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis?
