John, Our nation witnessed another dreadful mass shooting at another elementary school, this time in Uvalde, Texas. Minnesota grieves with the parents and families of everyone who was shot and killed at Robb Elementary today. As news continues to come out, I’m infuriated that we haven’t done more to protect our communities – especially our children – from gun violence. Our kids can't go to school without fearing for their safety. People can't get groceries without feeling unsafe. This cannot continue. Enough is enough. As governor, I’ve signed into law efforts to reduce gun violence, and my last two budgets invested in new violence prevention programs and expanded access to mental health services in schools. But we have to do more. It's long overdue for lawmakers to take action and pass universal background checks and “red flag” laws to get guns out of the wrong hands. I support closing the gun show loophole and preventing those on the “No Fly” list from being able to purchase firearms. And right now, I’m pushing to use our budget surplus to invest $450 million in public safety to reduce crime, tackle gun violence, and address the root causes of violence. Tell your representatives and local elected officials that we need to take action. We need to do more because the livelihoods of our communities, families, neighbors, and children depend on it. Let’s get this done, Tim Walz
