Dear Friend,

As my daughter and her friends graduated from high school last week, I thought about the challenges they faced and how important it is that we support them–and their mental health.

The isolation and uncertainty teenagers lived through during the pandemic was incredibly hard. At Safe2Tell, a program our office runs to protect young people, we receive more suicide-related reports than any other threat. And this challenge exists on a national basis, too. That’s why the U.S. Surgeon General called the state of youth mental health today a crisis.

At the Attorney General’s Office, we are focused on how we can best address this crisis.  Today, we issued a report that highlights our ongoing work in this area, including:

  • Suicide prevention work through Safe2Tell, including developing teen mental health PSAs,
  • a robust response to the opioid epidemic,
  • an investigation into social media’s impact on teens, and
  • grants that support local communities and organizations focused on young people, including our Healthy Youth/Strong Colorado fund.

If you or someone you know is struggling with their mental health, Colorado Crisis Services—a partner of Safe2Tell—is available 24/7 at 844-493-8255.
