John,
Amidst months of uncertainty and concern surrounding the future of reproductive rights in our country, families all across the country are now struggling to access much needed baby formula. As of this month, approximately 43% of baby formula was out of stock.1
Last week, while nearly 200 Republicans voted against a bill to ease baby formula shortage, Jamaal demanded urgent action to support infants and their families. Leading Congresswomen Ayanna Pressley, Pramila Jayapal, and Grace Meng, he spearheaded the charge in sending a letter to President Biden, urging him to use all applicable executive authorities to end the baby formula shortage.
Jamaal Bowman is the kind of leader we need in times of crisis — and a donation of any amount helps ensure we can win our re-election campaign and keep Jamaal in Congress where he belongs. Will you chip in whatever you can right now to support Jamaal as he fights and delivers for working families in Congress?
We're proud to know that President Biden has heeded our call to invoke the Defense Production Act to increase domestic production of baby formula. This in part with the launch of Operation Fly Formula will allow us to use federal assets to fly in formula from abroad to address this ever-growing crisis.
This current formula shortage is one of many clear factors of the pandemic. What's more, we're consistently being shown the true impediments caused by superficially over-regulated trade policies. With Operation Fly Formula in effect, we could have access to international formula resources that exceed the F.D.A's nutritional standards, but have been ineptly banned due to technicalities such as "labeling".
While we fight to expand the Senate and ensure that Roe v. Wade and basic human rights are still the law of the land despite the efforts of conservative actors, we must continue using every federal tool at our disposal to ensure that families and children everywhere are continually supported.
In solidarity,
Bowman for Congress
