Taking action for animals takes all of us

Jennifer Barckley Jennifer Barckley
VP, Communications

Friend, this Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, I’ve been grateful for the opportunity to celebrate, connect, and share stories—my personal favorite. This is especially needed right now, against a backdrop of racially-charged hate crimes in the US—from Buffalo to Laguna Woods.

Reflecting on our own stories and sharing them with others is a beautiful way to celebrate the singular power each of us brings to this movement. Our goals are aligned, but our stories are very different—and that is our greatest asset. After all, taking on the enormous challenge of industrial animal agriculture isn’t something we can do alone. That’s why every day, and especially this month of May, we celebrate the many stories of the AAPI community, at THL and far beyond. Together, we’re building an inclusive, resilient, intersectional way forward; one where every story is heard and appreciated. And together, we’re writing a new story for the animals.

Ventilation Shutdown Plus (VSD+) is the horrific slaughter method that has roasted millions of live hens amidst the ongoing bird flu outbreak. Will you tell the USDA to condemn the cruel practice of live-roasting chickens?
