News from Representative Allred

Dear Friend,

With Memorial Day approaching, I wanted to share some good news for our local veteran community. I also wanted to invite you to my Telephone Town Hall tomorrow, May 25th at 12:30 CST. You can sign up at allred.house.gov/live to ask me a question and listen in.

Last week, the House passed my bipartisan bill to authorize upgrades to VA Medical facilities across America including continued funding for the spinal cord injury center at the Dallas VA Medical Center.

Rep. Colin Allred joins President Biden in meeting with Texas veterans earlier this year.

Our veterans deserve the best quality care possible, but due to age, many VA facilities are incapable of providing top-notch care to those who have served. My bill will improve and expand VA facilities and deliver additional funding to complete the ongoing Dallas VA project to construct a 30-bed Long Term Care Spinal Cord Injury Center, with the capacity to expand to 60 beds. As one veteran put it, this will be a “godsend” to those who suffered spinal cord injuries. In addition to providing long-term care for the medical complications of spinal cord injuries and disorders, veterans who need it could live at the center on a long-term basis, receiving the specialized treatment, staff skills and equipment that they require.

As a member of the Veterans Affairs Committee, I will continue working with both parties to find innovative solutions – like we did in transforming the shuttered Baylor Scott & White Hospital into the new Garland VA – to better serve our veterans. I’m so proud that the House passed my bipartisan bill to deliver the care that our veterans deserve.

On Memorial Day and every day, I am humbled by the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation and I will do everything I can to honor their legacies by supporting our veterans and troops.

Sincerely,
