In four days, GivingTuesday will be a celebration of life for veterans, like me, who have faced life-altering struggles.

Giving Tuesday

John, I had only been in Vietnam for 32 days when it happened.

On June 26, 1969, I stepped on a booby trap and lost both of my legs and my left arm below the elbow.

When I saw what had happened to me, I shouted to my sergeant, “Just let me die! Just let me die!” But he wouldn’t hear it. He slapped me across the face to calm me down and assured me that I have so much to live for. And I did …

… my family back home, the family of my own I would have later, my future decades-long career and the opportunity to help other veterans who have gone through similar experiences.

Will you give $50 in honor of my 50th Alive Day this year?

June 26 is my Alive Day — a day that brings a flood of memories and emotions, but most of all, a celebration of life. This GivingTuesday, you can join veterans and veteran supporters across the country in an even bigger celebration of life.
