Dear Jack,
Happy Monday! I hope this newsletter finds you and your family well. We send out the Bell Bulletin to update you on all the information you need in the 13th District. Please reach out to my office with any questions or concerns you may have regarding legislation or state policy. If you are having trouble with a state agency, such as the VEC or the DMV, we are happy to assist you and be your advocate. You can call our office at 571-367-9080, or email us at [email protected].
Sincerely,

Veto Session
Recently, the General Assembly convened for the veto session, where we consider the Governor's amendments to bills that were passed during the 2022 regular session. The Governor passed down some minor amendments to two of my bills, which I believed were reasonable. The House and Senate accepted those amendments, and they were passed into law. Unfortunately, Governor Youngkin also vetoed one of my bills, SB347, which I was very disappointed to see. This bill would have created a pilot program to help low-income families, disabled veterans, and others fix sources of energy inefficiency in their homes and lower their energy bills. During a time when the cost of living is rising, I was upset to see the Governor veto a bill that could have helped to ease the burden on vulnerable families. Nevertheless, I'll keep championing energy efficiency for all of our families here in Virginia.

Commending Resolutions
One of the joys of my job as State Senator is recognizing people, businesses, and organizations in the community for doing great work. Recently, I got to hand deliver commending resolutions to two outstanding young women in the community who have done an amazing job giving back. Ryan Janaske of Ashburn was commended for her work founding and leading Kids Helping Kids, an organization that fills backpacks with school supplies for children in need, and Ayana Ahuja of South Riding was commended for raising over $100k for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
If you know of an individual, event, business, or organization in the community that deserves a commending resolution, or if you know of a community member who has passed away and deserves a memorial resolution, help us out and let us know! Please fill out my office's Commending and Memorial Resolution Request Form.

Now that the 2022 session and veto session are over, it's time to start engaging in community conversations about our work this year. I'm taking part in multiple town halls, both virtual and in-person, over the next month, to help update my constituents on the General Assembly's work. I hope you'll be able to join us!
