Today, May 23, 2022, Ramiro Choc, Q'eqchi defender of indigenous rights and territory, and of mother earth, has died in El Estor, Guatemala.
For his 'crime' of being a land and rights defender, he spent 6 years (2008-2014) as a political prisoner in the Guatemalan regime's jails.
He is the brother of land and rights defenders Angelica and Maria Choc.
He is brother-in-law of the murdered Adolfo Ich, Angelica's husband.
We stand in solidarity with his family and loved ones.
We honor his memory, his strength and vision, and his dignified path in life.
Rights Action is sending family support funds.
We will publish more information soon about this great indigenous land and rights defender.
