and "Civics Education Reform in the States"
Dear Friend,

We invite you to join us tomorrow at 2:00 pm ET for a discussion of Harper Lees's novel To Kill a Mockingbird and next week for a special webinar on civics education reform

More on our upcoming webinars:

Join NAS tomorrow at 2 pm ET for a discussion of Harper Lee's novel To Kill a Mockingbird.

“I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what."

What makes To Kill a Mockingbird a great American novel? How does it deal with themes of racial injustice and the loss of innocence? Who influenced Lee's writings, and who did her writings influence?

This webinar will feature Allen Mendenhall, Associate Dean and Grady Rosier Professor in the Sorrell College of Business at Troy University and Editor of the Southern Literary ReviewChris Metress, University Professor and Associate Provost at Samford University; and Don Noble, Professor of English, Emeritus, at the University of Alabama.

The discussion will be moderated by David Randall, Director of Research at the National Association of Scholars.

Join NAS on Thursday, June 2nd, at 2 pm ET, for a discussion of civics education reform in the states.

The charge for civics education reform is being led in campaigns throughout the states. Each state provides a different political environment—some enthusiastic for reform, others lukewarm, and others hostile.

In this event, we will talk with three Americans leading civics education reform efforts in different states: Mary Byrne, Ed.D., Educational Consultant and Director of Education for the Educated Citizen Project (Missouri); Katherine Kersten, Senior Policy Fellow at the Center of the American Experiment (Minnesota); and Anna Miller, Education Policy Director at the Idaho Freedom Foundation’s Center for American Education (Idaho).

The discussion will be moderated by David Randall, Director of Research at the National Association of Scholars.
