Ward 5, It's Your Decision!

Happy Monday Neighbors and Friends!

We are less than 30 days away from the close of the Democratic Primary election. Neighbors will begin taking their ballots to drop boxes this Friday, May 27th; early in-person voting will start on Friday, June 10th, and by the end of election day on June 21st, we may have a decision on this race.

Will you be one of the decision-makers, or will you let others decide for you?

I am running because I believe in the power of our community; our power to be heard and to direct our government to make the changes that will make our communities and our everyday lives better. I believe in our power to identify the issues that are important to us and to share our lived experiences and knowledge to get to lasting solutions. I have dedicated my adult life to serving my community, with a record of proven results. Countless community and elected leaders have vouched for me because they have been in the trenches doing the work with me.

As your Ward 5 representative, I will work hard to bring our neighbors' voices into government decision-making, and I will bring our Government and its resources to our neighborhoods.

We have a duty to our families, neighbors and communities to exercise our right to vote; to elect the people who will represent our best interests, and who will positively impact our city's long-term progress.

I am asking for your vote. Whether or not you vote for me, please vote. Too often, the interests of the loudest outweigh the interests of the majority. This election season, make a plan to be heard and to be among the decision-makers.

Here are our voting options: (It's not too late to register to vote!)

1.  Use the ballot delivered in the mail - drop it off at a designated ballot box starting on Friday, May 27th

2. Vote early in-person June 10th19th  early vote locations

3. Vote on election day on June 21st - at any of the voting centers in the ward.

Once you have made your voting plan, talk with your family members and neighbors about their plans; go together to drop off ballots or to the voting booths. In this close election, your vote could be the deciding vote.

Ward 5, this is our time to shine. Elect the first woman and the most qualified person in the race to represent Ward 5 on the DC Council.

In partnership,

Faith Gibson Hubbard

The Museum - Owners, LeGreg Harrison and Muhammad Hill
I am thrilled to have the support of The Museum owners LeGreg Harrison and Muhammad Hill. They are community icons who are following their dreams, while including and inspiring our Ward 5 neighbors - the young and the well-seasoned. Thank you, LeGreg and Muhammad!

Volunteer Appreciation Night

Our volunteers are the best! From the beginning, this has been a people-powered campaign. The majority of our volunteers live in Ward 5. We have support from new and long-time residents from every part of the ward. We also have many Native Washingtonians and former colleagues from across the city who have been invested in making all of our neighborhoods safe, healthy and prosperous. We want to hug you, feed you and buy you a beverage, as a small token of appreciation.

If you haven't volunteered yet and want to meet other volunteers and supporters, join us! And you can sign up here to phone bank, knock on doors and pass out literature this week.

DC NATIVES DAY EVENT

I joined my DC native friends, Tony and Angel, for a special screening in honor of DC Natives Day. Lorton: Prison of Terror is a must-see documentary, uncovering the truth about the criminal justice system and the need for reform. We've seen the impacts of incarceration on our community. Stories like this must drive us to build systems where everyone can thrive and our returning citizens can get a fresh start. It is possible.

MOBILE HOPE

It was such a rewarding experience to lend a hand to Listen for the Honk, a wonderful homeless outreach and prevention program operated by Mobile-Hope.org. They brought trucks full of groceries, toiletries and other resources for Ward 5 youth and families. This event took place in the Trinidad neighborhood.

KNOCKING THE BLOCK

It's always fun and enlightening to knock on doors, meet neighbors and hear what matters to them.
