The Republican frontrunner for Illinois' 17th district, Esther Joy King, is explicitly anti-choice. She has said that there is a need to overturn Roe v. Wade, and has retweeted multiple tweets by anti-choice pundits, including one Ben Shapiro tweet where says that the ability to outlaw abortion needs to return to the states.

Let's be clear; it does not. Overturning Roe v. Wade would take away a vital civil right from millions and millions of women. Now that Roe v. Wade being overturned seems to be an inevitability, congressional Democrats must do everything they can to codify abortion protections into law.

If we allow more anti-choice Republicans like Esther Joy King to take seats in the House, not only will it be impossible to implement any abortion protections, there would also be a real threat of federal legislation that makes abortions harder to access even in blue states. Some House Republicans have already announced that they are looking at reducing funding for women's healthcare in cases where it may be used for abortions, and some wish to even outlaw abortion on the federal level.

We need to organize and do everything we can to preserve our razor-thin majority. If we lose even a few seats, Democrats will be powerless to help women across the country. Us Democrats need to come together push for pro-choice candidates in every state. Our voices must be heard; YOU WILL NOT TAKE AWAY OUR RIGHTS!

After the Supreme Court news, it took no time at all for red states to start passing abortion restrictions. Dozens of states have already proposed disgusting anti-choice laws, with some implementing horrible, unhealthy practices like in Texas and Tennessee. Nebraska is even looking to scan women at airports to block any pregnant women from flying to other states to get abortions.

Illinois is quickly becoming an island of reproductive rights, surrounded by anti-choice states. Our great state is one of only a few to use government funds to assist women out of state in traveling here for abortions. Esther Joy King would do everything she could to stop this practice and turn us into another red state. We must not allow her to take away our civil rights!
