| REFLECTING ON YWM2022-VIRTUAL Earlier this month, the OAC hosted YWM2022-Virtual, a weekend-long online education and connection event. YWM2022-Virtual focused on providing quality, science-based education, prioritizing mental health and sharing our lived experiences. Attendees walked away feeling energized, motivated and inspired with newfound tools to apply to their everyday lives and a community of support to help them along the way. To capture this, we have put together a 2021 Annual Report that highlights our progress in the key areas we fight: education, advocacy, support and awareness. The report outlines the many ways that our hard work and the dedication of the OAC Community continue to push us closer to our goal, along with how we will build off of this progress in 2022 and beyond. READ MORE. | | | | The OAC is heartbroken by the passing of long-time OAC member, Rob Portinga. Rob was a member of the OAC National Board of Directors and served on many OAC committees. He was a pioneer in the obesity community, encouraging the open sharing our lived experiences and representing the “dudes” perspective, as he would say. Rob was a dedicated advocate, who touched the hearts of our Community. The OAC will miss Rob dearly and thanks him for his many years of service and dedication to the organization. will continue to live on within the OAC. His legacy will continue to live on within the OAC. | | Living with Extra Weight: A Mission to Get Rid of Obesity Stigma OAC Chair Patty Nece has experienced weight bias for as long as she can remember. By the time she was an adult, she believed everything people said to her, and she even began telling those things to herself. Patty says working with an obesity medicine specialist has changed her life. Today, Patty is passionate about changing the narrative and is a fierce advocate for people living with obesity.
