Dear friend,

While it might sound drastic at first to consider reducing or even giving up our Black Friday purchases today, unfortunately we and the world are in a very dangerous period right now.

The risk of nuclear weapons use is increasing and threatens catastrophic human suffering, but the solution to this enormous problem is in sight. At this moment, we need committed people like you to step up and contribute to solving the nuclear weapons problem.

Today, ICAN needs your financial support to enable us to carry our work to make nuclear weapons illegal by the end of 2020. The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons requires 50 ratifications by governments to become international law. So far, we have 34 ratifications which means there are only 16 left.

It’s an ambitious goal, but one you will benefit from directly. In effect, nuclear weapons will be prohibited from that point onward. Together, we will all benefit from this momentous milestone in the work to achieve nuclear disarmament.

We are determined to reach this goal in 2020 but we need your support to do it. With $25,000 at the start of the year, we can immediately launch a series of projects in some of the key target states that are considering ratification of the Treaty. Every gift, small and large, will make the difference and could help get a government onboard.

The moment nuclear weapons become illegal will be remembered in history. We want you to be a part of making this happen and appreciate whatever you can give to make it possible for us to achieve a global ban on nuclear weapons not in some distant future. But next year.

Yours in solidarity,

Beatrice Fihn
