Maximus is a multibillion-dollar federal contractor that provides administration and services for Medicaid, Medicare and the Affordable Care Act, among other services. Maximus CEO Bruce Caswell’s total compensation for 2021 was $7,906,006 or 208 times more than the median Maximus employee.
In comparison, after taxes and other items taken out of my check, my take home pay every two weeks is only about $600. That’s simply not enough to take care of my family, especially with the rising cost of living across the country.
I buy the best health care Maximus offers because one of my kids wears glasses, and I have health issues myself (I’m still only just part of the way through the $5,000 deductible for the family health care plan). For people making the base pay of $15 an hour at the Hattiesburg call center in Mississippi, where I work, it would take two full months of working full time just to pay down the deductible! I don’t want to go into debt to pay these hospital and doctor bills, but unfortunately that’s the situation I’m in now.
We’re fighting hard to organize for better pay and affordable health care, but Maximus isn’t giving families what we need to live.
But I’m not alone. Today, I’m so inspired to be standing with so many of my co-workers, community leaders and elected officials—will you sign onto our letter to show Maximus we have your support, too?
Thanks for having our backs.
