John,

Recently we saw violent shootings yet again across the U.S.—from Buffalo, NY to Dallas, TX, to here at home in Winston Salem, NC where seven people were injured by gun violence. In Elizabeth City, 4 people, including two younger than 18 years old, were injured by guns.

These recent attacks have brought us to 198 mass shootings in 2022, averaging about 10 such attacks each week according to the Gun Violence Archive. These numbers are unprecedented and preventable.

North Carolinians Against Gun Violence (NCGV) continues to fight for programs and policies that prevent deaths and injuries related to gun violence such as Community Violence Intervention (CVI) programs. CVI programs address the root causes of gun violence, targeting communities disproportionately impacted and working towards long-term systems change.

We will continue to advocate for increased funding for these critical programs across communities in NC by leading targeted campaigns, meeting with key decision-makers, training community stakeholders to address public officials, and more until we see a measurable reduction in gun violence.

But, we need your help! Please join us in this critical work with a tax-deductible donation to the 2022 Annual Campaign to keep the momentum going for a safer NC. Your donation of $50, $100, or $250 can go a long way to help us advocate for CVI programs across our state. Or give $250 or above to become members of our Lisa Price Gun Violence Prevention Circle. Donate today to prevent gun violence!

We are making progress because of this community’s support. Just last week Governor Cooper announced a proposed budget which would invest $5 million in community violence intervention programs. In addition, his budget proposed $1 million for gun locks, $200,000 for an educational safe storage awareness initiative, and $2.5 million in juvenile justice programs for violence prevention.

We can’t do this without you. Join us with a gift to support our on-the-ground work at NCGV Education Fund (tax-deductible) or to help us hold our elected officials and candidates accountable at NCGV Action Fund

Sincerely,
Becky Ceartas

P.S. Become a NCGV Sustainer today with a monthly donation to help us plan and build momentum for gun prevention efforts. Sign-up today as a monthly donor to NCGV Education Fund or NCGV Action Fund let us know we can count on you!
