Friend,
Last night, I joined Ayman Mohyeldin on MSNBC to call out Republican attempts to regulate the history that is being taught in schools and the banning of any book they don't agree with. If you missed last night's segment, will you take a moment to watch our discussion now?
It's long past time that we confront our country's historical tradition of extremism and racism. However, right-wing Republicans would rather sweep this complicated past under the rug instead of dealing with and teaching our country's true history — including my family's journey from being enslaved in a cabin in Gaithersburg, Maryland to serving in the cabinet of our nation's first Black president.
There is a direct line between right-wing Republican rhetoric from folks like Tucker Carlson, including the racist conspiracy "great replacement” theory, and the horrifying attack in Buffalo last week. And we just can't afford to be cautious in our response to their divisive and hateful politics. More Democrats need to stand up and push back, and as Maryland's next governor I won't be afraid to do just that.
To hear more, I invite you to take a moment to watch my MSNBC interview below. We also discussed my calls for President Biden to unilaterally cancel student debt, my run for governor, and more.
