_A friendly reminder that you are on our Texas Is Ready mailing list due to
your interest in professional development for educators, counselors,
administrators, medical professionals with a reproductive and health focus,
or those specializing in pediatrics. Please unsubscribe here [1] if you
are not interested in continued education. (Many of our opportunities offer
CEUs in multiple disciplines)._

Teachers and counselors can play a crucial role in advocating for their
students. Every day, you see the challenges they face and the support they
need to be healthy and successful.

Texas has new Health Education curriculum standards [2] which will provide
students with important information on topics like healthy relationships,
contraception, prevention of sexually transmitted infections, abuse
prevention, online safety, and more. We need your support to make sure that
high-quality, age-appropriate, medically accurate health education is
implemented in every school district throughout the state. Working
together, we can support Texas students for a lifetime of health.

WHO WE ARE
The Texas is Ready Coalition [3] is a grant-funded collaborative made up of
regional and statewide teen pregnancy prevention organizations. We help
school districts to implement evidence-based sex education, which research
shows can support adolescent health and safety.

PARENT OPT-IN REQUIREMENTS FOR SEX EDUCATION & ABUSE PREVENTION  Parent
opt-in forms are already being distributed to students in some Texas school
districts. Texas Is Ready is helping to ensure parents/caregivers are aware
that the forms have been distributed and that there is a due date for them
to be returned to the schools. Additionally, we want parents/caregivers to
have all of the information they need, so in the Texas Is Ready blog post
we are answering questions such as, "What is the parent opt-in form?" and
"What are my rights?"

HOW DID THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION IMPACT SEX EDUCATION? If you want to learn
more about how laws about sex education changed in the last legislative
session, read our blog here [7].
