Hillary Clinton Approved Release of Steel Dossier to Media

Her former campaign manager, Robby Mook, admits. National Review: When Mook bracingly testified that Clinton herself approved the campaign proposal to leak the back-channel smear to the media, that enabled Durham to do exactly what he had hoped to do: place Sussmann’s alleged false statement in a larger context of a Clinton-driven conspiracy (National Review). MSN: Sussmann has been charged with making a false statement to the FBI when he told former FBI General Counsel James Baker in September 2016, less than two months before the presidential election, that he was not doing work “for any client” when he requested and attended a meeting where he presented “purported data and ‘white papers’ that allegedly demonstrated a covert communicates channel” between the Trump Organization and Alfa Bank, which has ties to the Kremlin. Special Counsel John Durham’s team alleges Sussmann was, in fact, doing work for two clients: the Hillary Clinton campaign and a technology executive, Rodney Joffe. Following the meeting with Baker, Sussmann billed the Clinton campaign for his work (MSN). New York Post: James Baker also told jurors he would have treated the white paper and other material Sussmann gave him in September 2016 much differently if he’d known that the Fusion GPS firm, then working for the Clinton campaign, was involved (New York Post).

Judge Blocks Lifting of Title 42

CBS: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) cannot move forward with a plan to discontinue pandemic-related emergency rules that allow U.S. border agents to rapidly expel migrants to Mexico or their home countries on public health grounds, a federal judge in Louisiana ruled Friday. Judge Robert Summerhays of the U.S. District Court in Lafayette, Louisiana, issued a preliminary injunction blocking the Biden administration from ending the restrictions, known as Title 42, on May 23, when the CDC had planned to stop authorizing the border expulsions (CBS). Politico: The majority of Americans oppose the Biden administration’s decision to end a public health order used to expel migrants at the U.S. border, according to a new POLITICO-Harvard survey, underscoring how a law designed to stop the spread of disease is now widely seen as the best way to control immigration. The survey found that 55 percent of American adults oppose ending the use of the order, known as Title 42, to prevent migrants from entering the U.S., compared to 45 percent who think the order should end (Politico).

Americans Continue to Worry About Inflation, Economy

Pessimism is not only present but growing. CBS: America’s mood is uneasy and worried. Amid continued inflation and stock market declines, large majorities describe their mood as such, and the percentage who call the economy bad has hit highs for the Biden presidency. The number who say things in the country are going badly overall is at the highest level of President Biden’s tenure, too, as pessimism about the market, the economy and prices drives views looking forward — and outweighs optimism about both jobs and coronavirus, as we head into summer (CBS). Breitbart: Right now, Americans are facing one daily shock after another. Gas prices have exploded with record high after record high over the last three weeks. Our monthly 401K statements make us wince. What a hundred dollars bought you at the grocery store during the Trump Era now costs closer to $150. No amount of happy talk about the unemployment rate, or this or that, can paper over the everyday trauma of everyday life in Joe Biden’s failed America (Breitbart).

Hyundai Invests $5.5 Billion in Georgia Plant to Build Electric Vehicles

From the story: Hyundai Motor on Friday confirmed plans to spend $5.54 billion to build its first dedicated electric vehicle and battery manufacturing facilities in the U.S. The plants will be located outside of Savannah, Georgia, in Bryan County, the company said. The operations are expected to open during the first half of 2025, with an annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles, according to the South Korean automaker. About 8,100 new jobs are to be created (CNBC). Daily Wire: The investment also occurs as the automotive industry experiences constraints from a worldwide computer chip shortage. Many Asian economies introduced harsh lockdown measures at the onset of COVID-19, thereby creating bottlenecks in the global semiconductor supply chain. Some automotive companies have been forced to limit or pause production due to the phenomenon — worsening inflationary pressures as vehicle prices surge at their highest rate in decades (Daily Wire).

Facing Pilot Shortage, Airlines Consider Reducing Required Training Hours

Business Insider: As the pilot shortage continues to rock the airline industry, carriers are struggling to fulfill their flight schedules, and some are even trying to reduce required training hours to get more pilots in the air. On May 13, Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci apologized in a YouTube video for continued flight cancellations that have been plaguing the carrier. Minicucci blamed the pilot shortage, saying “we had 63 fewer pilots than what we planned for when we built our scheduled,” which caused a “ripple effect.” The Seattle-based carrier is just one example of airlines struggling to find enough pilots to handle the busy post-pandemic travel surge. According to Bloomberg, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, and United Airlines have all cut regional flying in recent months due to the shortage, with United grounding 100 regional planes over the issueBecause of the lack of pilots, carriers are considering changing long-standing requirements to get more pilots flying sooner, like nixing degree requirements, dropping the mandatory number of flight hours needed to be hired, and increasing the pilot retirement age. In January, Delta announced it would end the requirement for pilots to have a four-year degree, saying there are qualified candidates “who have gained more than the equivalent of a college education through years of life and leadership experience” (Business Insider). Daily Wire: Republic Airways, a regional carrier operating on behalf of Delta, American Airlines, and United Airlines, is making a similar move. The carrier asked the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in April for permission to hire pilots out of their training academy when they have reached 750 flight hours, half the number currently required (Daily Wire).

Gavin Newsom Spends California’s $98 Billion Budget Surplus

Has acted untouchable ever since surviving recall efforts last year. Wall Street Journal: Many GOP states are using their windfalls to cut taxes. Not California. Mr. Newsom proposes to spend his surplus on buying votes and ameliorating the #Californiaproblems that progressive policies have created. The biggest budget winner as usual is the teachers unions. Public schools will get $128 billion, a 25% increase over pre-pandemic levels, though student enrollment has shrunk by 270,000. School shutdowns and California’s woke curriculum have spurred many parents to seek alternatives (WSJ).

San Francisco Archbishop Denies Nancy Pelosi Communion Due to Her Stance on Abortion

Fox News: San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone announced Friday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is barred from receiving Holy Communion due to her pro-abortion stance — marking an escalation in a decades-long tension between the Roman Catholic Church and liberal Democratic politicians on abortion. Cordileone has written to the California Democrat, informing her that she should not present herself for Holy Communion at Mass, and that priests will not distribute communion to her if she does present herself (Fox News). Spencer Brown: As the letter from the Archbishop outlines, the Church in her home district has apparently tried to meet with her about her stance on abortion — again one that is far outside of Catholic teaching, what Roe v. Wade allowed, and even what a majority of Americans support. Last May, Archbishop Cordileone warned that prominent Catholics who continue to support abortion — and even worse use their Catholic faith to justify their stance — ought to be denied Holy Communion. “This is a bitter medicine,” Cordileone said of denying Catholics the Sacrament, “but the gravity of the evil of abortion can sometimes warrant it” (Townhall). Being Libertarian: There are people who are boycotting communion with the Catholic Church because of Nancy Pelosi being denied communion for her stance on abortion. Government is some people’s god (Twitter).

Russia Terminates Gas Exports to Finland

Associated Press: Russia halted gas exports to neighboring Finland on Saturday, a highly symbolic move that came just days after the Nordic country announced it wanted to join NATO and marked a likely end to Finland’s nearly 50 years of importing natural gas from Russia. The measure taken by the Russian energy giant Gazprom was in line with an earlier announcement following Helsinki’s refusal to pay for the gas in rubles as Russian President Vladimir Putin has demanded European countries do since Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24 (Associated Press).

Oklahoma Lawmaker Suggests Bill Requiring Vasectomies for Young Men in Response to Anti-abortion Law

Business Insider: An Oklahoma state rep proposed an idea for legislation that would make vasectomies mandatory for young men in the state. Speaking before a floor of legislators, state Rep. Mickey Dollens said on Thursday that he is thinking about introducing the legislation next year (Business Insider). The Recount: “I would invite you to co-author a bill that I’m considering next year that would mandate that each male, when they reach puberty, get a mandatory vasectomy that’s only reversible when they reach the point of financial and emotional stability” (Twitter). Daily Wire: Dollens also attacked Republicans for not bringing up Democratic priorities. “There are plenty of actual solutions that can make a difference in reducing unwanted pregnancies,” he said. “Birth control, family planning, sex education, livable wage. But no. Each year, the past six years I’ve been here, and for years and years before that, they have gone unaddressed.” Dollens also accused Republicans in the legislature of trying to score political points (Daily Wire).
