Election 2022 - Defend our NDIS, success!

Dear supporter,

Thank you! You are amazing!

You Defended Our NDIS this election - and gave us all a brighter future!

The last few years have been horrific. Bushfires, floods. Costs to things like meat, veggies, housing, and fuel getting more expensive. Violence, abuse and neglect horror stories. And the big one - COVID.

But on top of all of that - our community has been fighting with every last drop of energy to save the NDIS. From 'independent' assessments. Robo-plans. NDIS Act 'god powers'. Plan cuts. AAT appeals. Way too much…

When we asked you all a month or two ago, to choose just one word to describe how you felt - the answer was always "exhausted".

But because of each and every action you took to Defend Our NDIS this election - we now have hope that's all about to change.

Because on Saturday night as the votes were being counted it became clear.

The political parties and independents who stopped and genuinely listened to us all were being voted in. They were winning.

And those who dismissed, ignored or offered nothing other than more of the same were losing power. They were losing us.

People with disability, our families and the people who support us have proven - once again - that we have enormous political power when we join forces and work together.

We now have the power to fix our NDIS. To make it work.

But we can't get there alone.

We need our new leaders in Parliament to help us [[link removed]].

But before we get right down to business, we would love to hear that you're all able to take a break from Defending Our NDIS. To recharge your batteries. Reflect, and be proud of the things that you and all of our allies did to help us get here.

It won't be long before we'll be calling on you again - to help our new pollies understand exactly what we all need to see change.

But for now, please join us in welcoming our leaders in our new federal parliament - starting with our new Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese. Congratulations!

We thank you for genuinely listening to us. For promising to Defend Our NDIS (we will hold you to that!)

We look forward to meeting with and working with you, your party, the Greens, and independents new and old.

We look forward to culture shifts - both in Parliament and in the NDIA - where the people in charge are proud of working in partnership with us, and proud to work towards a better future for people with disability.

We will all be right here, ready for the next parts.

So to you supporter, we can't thank you enough. For everything you have done to support our community! You have helped us all dare to let hope back in. That is an enormous gift.

- Jean and the Every Australian Counts team x
