It’s Thanksgiving. I woke up with a very thankful heart knowing that all three kids are home and sleeping down the hall in the rooms of their childhoods. One by one, they each came home, and I could not be more grateful.
The house is a frenzy of activity. Lots of chopping, cooking, baking…laughing, sharing stories, teasing, and maybe even a little short-lived tiff or two. We all have our assigned duties: Kishore is in charge of Cornish hens (don’t @ me about turkey please ;); I’m making cranberry relish, stuffing, and green beans; Mira is the master of mashed potatoes and table decor; Anjali is on pie (and charcuterie board!) duty; Jalan is making sure we have plenty of warm rolls and gravy. All the while, Max & Bruno are nearby, waiting for occasional crumbs and morsels to fall their way. My folks have joined us, and the festivities will move from kitchen to dining room as we share a wonderful meal, and more important, a few hours reflecting on our blessings in the warm embrace of family.
When I count my blessings, I think of all of you who have supported us, our campaign, our communities, our mission, and our democracy. I have been continually humbled by the stories you’ve shared with us, the work you’ve entrusted us with, and the deep commitment you have to making our communities stronger, healthier, and safer. I am deeply grateful for your partnership throughout this journey.
It’s my sincere wish that, despite the tumultuous times we live in, each of you has a wonderful Thanksgiving spent in the company of those who warmly surround you with compassion and unconditional love. For those who struggle today, may you know you matter and you are not alone. We hold you close and wish you peace.
