Sometimes no-brainers like expanding voting rights or building up infrastructure fail to pass the Senate.

This sucks – but with a Democratic Majority in both the House and the Senate, and President Biden in the White House, how can something like this happen?

This little piece of parliamentary bullshit called the filibuster.

Here’s a little lesson because it was hard to get my head around:
 
Basically, when a bill is up for debate, the Senate has to vote to end the actual debate and move into voting on the bill.

But to move out of debate, 60 Senators must agree to end it, and right now, Senate Democrats only have a razor thin Majority of 51 (including the typical tie-breaker vote from VP Kamala Harris).

So, Republicans have taken it upon themselves to simply never end debate on things they don’t like (like basic human rights). This was why late last year historic voting rights legislation never passed.

This is literally stupid. I just cannot believe this is allowed. But it is. And because of this, our rights are being successfully taken away by the GOP.

For decades, Senators saw no problem with this dumb little filibuster rule. It should’ve been taken away years ago. But instead, they played politics with it when it was to their side's advantage.

And that’s exactly what I’m fighting against. All this dumb political mumbo-jumbo isn’t helping Colorado families. Instead of using loopholes to bend the rules in your favor, we should be working on real solutions for Colorado.
