Hi Team,
Since the leak of the Supreme Court’s draft opinion overruling
Roe v. Wade, the fight for reproductive rights has never been more urgent. In this moment, we need to come together and fight back against the far-right’s attempts to ban abortion, and that’s a fight I’m committed to.
In addition to this threat to women’s rights, many can’t help but question:
“what is next?”
The “right to privacy” from the ruling almost 50 years ago established the legal foundation that protects same-sex marriage. The worry striking through the LGBTQ community is that overturning Roe could mean a roll back for equality.
The language Justice Samuel Alito used in his draft opinion served as a warning of the implications for LGBTQ rights. He referenced
Obergefell v. Hodges, the 2015 ruling that guaranteed same-sex couples the right to marry; and
Lawrence v. Texas, the 2003 ruling that granted the right to engage in private consensual acts.
With reproductive rights and equality on tenuous legal footing, it's more important than ever to elect leaders who will protect our rights at the federal level. We cannot risk falling back into the shadows and be treated as second-class citizens. I’ve spent my entire career fighting to uphold the Constitution and I pledge to continue being an advocate for us all.
Here in CA-41, our work starts by unseating extremists like my opponent Ken Calvert who have undercut our freedoms from the beginning. Chip in $3 today to send him packing.
Thanks,
Will
