After an unelected, out-of-town Special Master redrew congressional maps for New York that targeted Black Members of Congress and the communities they represent, Hakeem knew he had to speak up.

The NYS Constitution requires that the core of existing congressional districts be maintained, yet historic Black communities like Bed-Stuy were carved up in the new maps.

New Yorkers sent a record number of Black members to Congress in 2020, and Hakeem won’t let a broken redistricting process roll back our progress.
