A PERSONAL NOTE
Good morning! I hope your gardens are thriving, your family is well-fed, and your day is beautiful.

Summer is finally here in full force in North Carolina, complete with hot temperatures and thunderstorms. The early mornings and evenings are the most pleasant times to be outside and I go walking with the doggo then, to protect his feet from the hot pavement. He likes to lay outside on the patio in the sun for a while in the middle of the day, and then he's thrilled to come back in where it's cooler.

I've been using old tricks from when I had no air conditioning to keep my utility bills down while maintaining a comfortable temperature. As much as I love to see the sunlight streaming into my apartment, during the day, I keep my blinds closed tightly on my south-facing windows. I only run the AC at night and just try to maintain the temperature throughout the day. So far, my electric bill hasn't exceeded $55 so I'm hoping to keep this up.

The other place I've saved money is by staying home or walking most of the time. Driving is outrageously expensive, (and I know I'm not telling you anything you don't know.) I can't accomplish all my errands on foot, but I have cut my driving to one day a week for the most part. I keep a list of errands that I need to drive for and try to do it all in one outing.

This gives me more money to put toward stocking up and gardening, and those are both priorities right now. Pretty soon I won't need to buy fresh veggies for a few months and that money can go toward stockpile supplies.

Something that has been hugely beneficial as prices skyrocket is Misfit Market. I try to purchase organic whenever possible, and the price of organic meat and eggs there is about the same as conventional at my local grocery store. I was initially hesitant to have eggs mailed to me, but so far, so good - I haven't had a single broken one. While some things are pricey on Misfit, there are some very good weekly sales and high-quality pantry items to be acquired. If you check it out, be sure to let me know what you think.

I hope you have an awesome week!

Today is the last day to get the Urban Agriculture Comprehensive course at the introductory price and boost your productivity in small spaces. I've learned so many tricks that I think I'll be doubling my productivity this year on my little patio. I'll soon be harvesting peas and radishes, and I've just transplanted hardy summer veggies.

Grab it while it's on sale!
