Today, I’m humbled and honored to receive the DFL Party endorsement for Secretary of State.

You’ve heard me say as Minnesota’s chief elections officer that I’m in the democracy business. That means I literally make it my business to defend democracy, to protect the freedom to vote, and to lead with the truth.

For me, that mission is deeply personal.

From my great-grandfather, who escaped persecution in Eastern Europe before World War II and came to America looking for the freedoms we cherish, to my dad who suffered from Parkinson’s Disease and struggled to exercise his own freedom later in life.

Every generation has a responsibility to sustain and strengthen the freedom that millions of people have sought and found here.

That’s what this election is all about.

• Protecting and expanding the freedom to vote.
• Defending democracy.
• Pushing back against disinformation, extremism, and hyper-partisan schemes that would take us backward and weaken our best-in-the nation election system.

The question is: In 2022 do we still have the ability to hear the call? Do we still have the power to answer the call?

I say: Yes. We are Minnesotans. We are Americans.
