Hello John! Early voting has begun in Iowa. While I’m excited about the upcoming election, I’m also concerned about the changes that Iowa Republicans made to our state’s voting system.
Gov. Reynolds and Iowa Republicans voted to shorten the early voting period from 29 days to 20 days, and they shortened Election Day voting from 9 pm to 8 pm.
We should give folks more time to vote, not less, John.
But what I’m most concerned about is that Iowa Republicans made it much more difficult to vote absentee. If you want to vote in Iowa’s Primary Election by absentee, the request must be delivered to your county clerk’s office by this Monday at 5 pm. Look, I’m not trying to make you feel discouraged about our upcoming election. But I do want you to be aware of these changes to our state’s voting system. I want to make sure every Iowa voter has an opportunity to cast their ballot and make their voices heard in our democratic process.

We have a huge election coming up in 2022. We have a governor’s race, a Senate race, competitive House races and so many seats up for grabs in the Iowa Legislature.
Iowa Democrats must get out the vote like they never have before. Even if it means jumping through a few Republican voter suppression hurdles to get it done. Let’s show Gov. Reynolds and Iowa Republicans just how powerful our grassroots movement is.
This is what democracy is all about. So get out there and vote!
