Dear MoveOn member,
In the first few months of 2022, MoveOn members continued to come together to accomplish many amazing things—from raising over $1 million for direct relief for Ukrainians to supporting and celebrating the confirmation of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. I wanted to take a moment to lift up all that we have collectively achieved with your support.
We showed solidarity with Ukraine.
Throughout our 23-year history, MoveOn Civic Action has mobilized for diplomacy over war. Since February, MoveOn members have stepped up in meaningful ways in support of the Ukrainian people as Russia’s unprovoked war continues. Together, we’ve raised more than $1.1 million for humanitarian aid in Ukraine, supported the push for diplomacy over militarism, and showed our solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
Moving forward, we continue to take action in support of President Biden's diplomacy-first foreign policy doctrine, such as organizing to support the administration’s efforts to reenter the Iran nuclear deal. Check out this recent livestream in partnership with Win Without War and look for more ways to contribute to this work in the coming weeks.
We passed the Emmett Till Antilynching Act.
As President Biden signed the Emmett Till Antilynching Act into law, lynching was finally designated a federal hate crime—more than 66 years after Till's brutal murder. This law was a long time coming, and MoveOn members played a major role in its passage, infusing energy to build the momentum to get it on the president’s desk.
A year ago, members of Emmett Till’s family posted this petition on MoveOn demanding accountability for his murder. The petition quickly garnered more than 250,000 signatures. In March, MoveOn coordinated with the Emmett Till Legacy Foundation to deliver those petition signatures to the Mississippi attorney general and the local district attorney.
This energy helped deliver a tangible victory, as only weeks later, President Biden signed the Emmett Till Antilynching Act into law, with Till’s family in attendance.
We're fighting to safeguard our democracy.
Across the country, MAGA Republicans continue to threaten our democracy and our fundamental right to vote. Last year alone, in 19 states, Republicans enacted 33 laws making it more difficult to vote. Building on our 2021 work, MoveOn members kicked off 2022 by calling for critical reforms in support of civil and voting rights, including an end to the filibuster.
After months of fierce organizing, Senator Chuck Schumer forced a Senate vote to set the record straight on which elected officials support ensuring everyone has the freedom to vote— and which don't. Now, despite the stalling of federal legislation, MoveOn members continue to organize for voting rights and democracy legislation. We are also infusing these priorities into our broader effort to build a culture of democracy over the long term. Together, we’ll mobilize and organize to get out the vote in 2022, fight to ensure all of our voices are heard at the polls, and elect pro-democracy leaders up and down the ballot.
We're showing up for LGBTQ+ rights.
In a troubling and heartbreaking trend, there has been a dramatic increase in attacks on the LGBTQ+ community by GOP lawmakers in states across the country. These are blatant attempts by the GOP to demonize LGBTQ+ kids and their families and communities, and, in turn, inflame homophobic fears within the GOP base to turn out their voters in the midterm elections.
MoveOn members support all people's freedom to live, love, and be themselves without fear of persecution, and we’re proud to be in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. There is no place in elected office for anyone who has supported bills that attack LGBTQ+ people, trans kids, or the people who love them. That’s why our MoveOn community is fighting back. Together, MoveOn members have supported local organizers on the ground in Florida and Texas to push back on anti-gay legislation. We’re also calling out recent book bans that primarily target LGBTQ+ content.
We supported Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.
Last month, we celebrated the confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson as the newest Supreme Court justice. Justice Jackson joins the court with sterling credentials as a lawyer and jurist and a proven track record of fighting for the rights of the people. She is also making history as the first Black woman to sit on the nation's highest court.
Since the start of Justice Jackson's nomination process:
Last weekend, over a million people joined Bans Off Our Bodies marches across the nation.
These incredible rallies were powered by MoveOn members like you, alongside Planned Parenthood, UltraViolet, Women’s March, state and local reproductive justice leaders, and abortion providers in hundreds of communities around the country. In spite of endless attacks on our rights, we came together to show that we won’t give up in this fight—and that we can’t afford to until there are bans off our bodies, as well as affordable, quality, and comprehensive health care for all.
Online and in the streets, MoveOn members across the country came together passionately to support abortion access and demand that abortion be safe, legal, and accessible in all communities. Together, in the last two weeks since the Supreme Court opinion leak, MoveOn members ...
We urgently need to keep the pressure up—because as politicians continue to restrict our bodily autonomy and access to vital health care, we have to continue to come together and show that we won’t back down. We'll be taking to the streets again through the weeks ahead and when the final decision comes down from SCOTUS. Sign up here to make sure you're among the first to know when and where to show up.
We're going all-in to win the 2022 midterm elections.
If you’ve made it this far, you know our work this election cycle is cut out for us. In order to maintain Democratic control of the House and Senate and protect our democracy in state races across the country, we’re going to need all of us, not only to vote but to organize. That’s why MoveOn is prioritizing a strategic, data-driven plan to mobilize the Democratic base as well as the critical surge of voters we need to defeat the radical right in 2022.
We’re excited to share the full details of our election program. You can read more about our program here, then sign up to join an upcoming training to get involved.
Thank you for being a part of the MoveOn community and for all that you do.
–Rahna and the whole MoveOn team

Want to support MoveOn's work? Donald Trump's preparations for being able to steal the presidency in 2024 are well underway and include working to replace top election officials in battleground states with his own loyalists. Which is why MoveOn is doing something we've never done in our 23-year history: We're launching a powerful, multimillion-dollar effort to defeat Trump-backed secretaries of state across the country and elect individuals who will count every vote and ensure fair elections.
No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.
