Friend,

I'm celebrating this great nation's birth with my wife and our twin daughters by reflecting on what our wonderful home has provided us, and the values that our country shares.

My story is no secret: I come from humble beginnings. It was only through the love of my family, the support of my community, and my conviction to serve others, that I earned the opportunity to represent my friends and neighbors in Congress.

There, I have remained dedicated to building upon our country's nearly two and a half centuries of progress so every American has the same opportunities that I have enjoyed. That means fighting for veterans' benefits, protecting Medicare and Social Security, and standing up for children and families.

I encourage you to join me today in reflecting on what these values mean to you. And to remember that while the world around us has changed, what remains important -- family, freedom, and equality -- has not.
