Friend – have you seen this headline? In case you missed it, here’s a quick recap of the Trump-era “Remain in Mexico” policy:
- The Trump-era The Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), often referred to as the “Remain in Mexico” policy, subjects asylum-seekers to dangerous conditions in Mexico while they await court dates in the U.S., which can take months or years.
- This cruel policy has put tens of thousands of people in grave danger and violated their right to apply for asylum in the United States.
- In August, the Supreme Court refused to block a lower court order resuming "Remain in Mexico,” and the Biden administration has not put forward a plan to end this policy for good.
- Just last month, the Supreme Court heard arguments on whether the Biden administration can end “Remain in Mexico.”
As we await the Supreme Court’s decision, a reminder that “Remain in Mexico” is a vicious attempt to shut down our asylum system and deter people seeking safety. To protect migrants at our border and restore our asylum system: we must do away with Trump’s gamut of anti-asylum policies for good.
Do you agree, Friend? Should the “Remain in Mexico” policy end?
Thanks for voicing your opinion on this,
