Dear John

Last week, the government published the Levelling Up Bill following the Queen’s Speech. Sadly, the bill is nothing more than a calculated power grab by the government.

This week, we released our Star Count results on our website, you can explore the results on our interactive map. Star Count may be over but don’t worry, you can enjoy more starry adventures with our children's book ‘ Gem and I’.

Meanwhile, an ex steel boss has spoken out against plans for a Cumbrian coal mine. We’re asking if the steel industry doesn’t want it, what reasons are left for Michael Gove to approve a new coal mine?

Finally, we’d love to watch your countryside walk videos – read on to find out how to send in your videos.

Star Count results are live!

Back in February, thousands of you took part in Star Count 2022 and the results are now in! We can reveal star gazers are enjoying their best view of the night sky since our annual Star Count began in 2011.

What does the Levelling Up Bill really mean for the countryside?

It's great to hear Housing Secretary Michael Gove say we need to make sure 'more of the right homes are built in the right ways in the right places'. But street votes will not guarantee the affordable homes ordinary people need.

Ex steel boss speaks out against coal mine

Earlier this month, a former boss of British Steel dismissed plans to build a mine in Cumbria. The Cumbrian coal mine poses a threat to both the future of our countryside and our planet. That’s why we’re saying #NoNewCoal.

Share your countryside walk videos

We’d love to see videos from your walks in the countryside and green spaces near you. Why not send us a video of the things you discover on your stroll for us to share. For some inspiration you can read about Lewis’ countryside walk on our website.

PS. If you’re a volunteer, we’d love for you to send in a short clip telling us what you enjoy about volunteering with us.
