At approximately noon on Thursday, May 19, 2022, city staff was notified of sewage running over a public sidewalk near Argonne and Nixon. City public works staff immediately investigated the situation and found a private sanitary sewer cleanout cap had broken, spilling an estimated 2 gallons of sewage onto the sidewalk, which drained into a nearby catch basin. The affected sidewalk and lawn area was cleaned and treated with a powdered lime to neutralize and accelerate the decomposition of any remaining sewage. In accordance with regulatory protocols, City of Ann Arbor staff contacted the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) to inform them of this incident.
