Hello, Friends —
This week Congress considered and voted on H.R. 7688, the Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act, and H.R. 350 the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act, and 2 bills aimed at targeting the current baby formula shortage: H.R. 7791, the Access to Baby Formula Act & H.R. 7790, the Infant Formula Supplemental Appropriations Act.
If I voted for bills based on how their titles sound versus what these are actually set to do, this would be a different story! Unfortunately, the aforementioned bills are not only misguided, but many increase federal government spending at the worst possible time in our nation's economy.
H.R. 7790 — This bill provides $28 million in emergency supplemental appropriations to address the shortage of infant formula in the United States, without a concrete plan. This is throwing the American taxpayers' money at a problem (of which $11 million is already available) and does not narrowly define how baby formula will fill the shelves of grocery stores again.
H.R. 7791 — This would make baby formula shortages worse for most Americans. It will allow the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) to utilize a far greater portion of the baby formula market, crowding-out many hard working American families. All considered, government-empowered swings to markets typically create more problems than they solve. Instead of creating new emergency authorities for the Incompetent Biden Regime, we should source more product for all American families and solve the problem.
H.R. 7688 — This bill would enable President Biden to issue an “emergency proclamation making it illegal to sell consumer fuel at a price that’s ‘unconsciously excessive,’ lasting 30 days and infinitely renewable. This socialist, dictator-esque authority also empowers the FTC to monitor oil companies oil production and penalize those it deems “unfair” with civil penalties – placing the US one step closer to usurping an oil state owned enterprise, like Mexico’s PEMEX or Russia’s Rosneft.
The Biden administration is simultaneously planning to ease sanctions on Venezuela – which is contradictory to his eagerness for sanctions against Russia, to say the least. Ignore government spending induced inflation, blame American companies, and embrace Venezuela. Thanks Joe!
GAETZ: DOMESTIC EXTREMISM IN AMERICA COMES FROM THE LEFT

This week, I spoke on the House floor to express my opposition the H.R. 350, the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act. Specifically, I am fed up with the way that other lawmakers want to surveille the American people so long as their are some that disagree with them. This has specifically been egregious towards the brave men and women of the United States Armed Services, who have been a consistent target for the Left.

REPS. GAETZ, BUCK, OWENS, JAYAPAL, CICILLINE INTRODUCE BILL REMOVE BIG TECH'S DUOPOLY ON DIGITAL ADS
I joined U.S. Representatives Ken Buck (R-CO), Burgess Owens (R-UT), Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), and David Cicilline (D-RI),to introduce the House companion bill to Senator Mike Lee’s (R-UT) “Competition and Transparency in Digital Advertising Act.” If passed into law, this legislation would restore and protect competition in digital advertising markets by preventing companies that generate more than $20 billion in digital ad revenue from participating in both sides of the digital advertising markets. This bill takes direct aim at Google and Facebook’s ad market duopoly by preventing them from acting as both buyers and sellers.
The Competition and Transparency in Digital Advertising Act (CTDA) provides for an integral mechanism to prevent Big Tech from continuing to exploit the digital advertising marketplace. As giant Big Tech companies, such as Google, continue to simultaneously own the supply and demand side of advertising transactions, thus steering bids to their own services at the detriment of everyone else, CTDA would immediately put an end to this. CTDA would prohibit large digital advertising companies from owning more than one side of the digital advertising system and require the largest companies to provide transparency to their customers. It’s time to put an end to the circular system in digital advertising exploited by Big Tech.

'Painful to the community': Local leaders push for public access to NAS Pensacola
Channel 3 reached out to Rep. Matt Gaetz on Thursday about the topic, as well as the petition. He provided this statement: "I appreciate and support the Northwest Florida effort to save our Naval Aviation Museum. Unfortunately, the Navy has been resistant to multiple solutions presented by local, state and national leaders. If the Navy wants the museum to remain a jewel of aviation history, they must join us in supporting a re-orientation of the gates and physical barriers protecting the mission. COVID and the terrorist attack at NAS Pensacola have both already cost our community so much. They shouldn’t now be used as a basis to smother our beloved museum."
