John, last week, we reached out to you and our vast community of supporters to see what you wanted to know about the child-friendly spaces.
We’ve been incredibly grateful to receive so many thoughtful questions from this community, and we’re excited to share our responses with you:
What is the purpose of a child-friendly space? Child-friendly spaces are safe spaces set up to protect children from physical harm and psychosocial distress - and support their development both during and after an emergency. [link removed]
What activities are available at child-friendly spaces? We provide activities that encourage learning, healing and socialization. Puzzles facilitate concentration and a sense of accomplishment. Drawing and use of different forms of art allow for the expression and exploration of difficult emotions. And sports equipment encourages physical activity and cooperation between groups of children. Are you creating child-friendly spaces to support children fleeing the was in Ukraine? Yes, we have established child-friendly spaces in neighboring countries to support families fleeing Ukraine. In addition to supporting children facing trauma, the child care we provide gives parents a chance to focus on meeting basic needs like food and housing and to plan their family's next steps. What countries do you have child-friendly spaces in? From Afghanistan to Haiti, Myanmar to Syria, Save the Children aims to establish Child-Friendly Spaces everywhere children's futures are being impacted by conflict, natural disaster and other emergencies. Since Hurrican Katrina in 2005, we have also served more than 1 million children affected by emergencies in the U.S. [link removed]

Children are remarkably resilient, particularly when they quickly get the support they need after a crisis occurs. Child-friendly spaces allow us to build on children’s strengths and help them recover from devastating conflict and hardship.
Thank you so much for making this important work possible.
