We wrote to you this month about a report released from Brady, which showed that just a small number of gun shops are selling an overwhelming majority of guns used in crime in our area. There were over 15,000 guns from just six shops. We have a plan for how to address this, but we need your help to make it happen, and quickly.

So much of the enforcement of laws around guns has been centered too late in the process, after a person buys a gun, and after a person uses it to cause harm. We need vigilant enforcement of our gun laws at the point of sale, and the data analyzed in this Brady report shows that just a bit more effort targeting the worst-acting shops will make a huge difference.

We need you to demand vigilant enforcement from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms for all gun shops in Pennsylvania. Use your voice and contact them right now.

We haven’t had a Senate-confirmed leader at the ATF since 2013, but we cannot afford to wait another day. Next week there will be a Senate hearing for President Biden’s nominee to this position, but we need the ATF to get to work right now. Speak up, and create the urgency we’re going to need to get them to act.

I want to repeat something I just said: over 15,000 guns used in crimes in our communities were sold from just six gun shops. Imagine the reality we’d have if all gun shops followed all laws on the books, with every single sale. Imagine the reality we’d have if data like this was reviewed on an annual basis, and the worst actors had their gun shops shut down if they didn’t clean up their act.
